The book by Heike Scheidemann outstandingly represents the contribution that organizational sociology can make to the sociology of public administration. It is a fortunate occurrence for the series Organization and Public Management that it can present this programmatically significant work by Heike Scheidemann as its opening volume. The theoretical approach of this study is distinctly organizational sociological. Its aim is to reconstruct the implementation of public management concepts in public organizations as a reference to societal patterns of organizing. Unlike much of organizational research, this work focuses not on the diffusion aspects of so-called innovations or management trends, but rather on interorganizational processes of organizing.
