Nine years after the financial crisis, the problems in Europe remain unresolved: millions, especially young people, cannot find work. The financial sector continues to expand, tax havens thrive, and inequality is increasing. The next major crisis is certainly on the horizon. 34,019 pages of new regulations do not make the financial industry safer. They create even more bureaucracy and complexity. Significantly fewer, simpler, but tougher and more consistent rules would be a much better response. The authors make clear demands, primarily advocating for an ecological transformation of the economy in favor of climate-friendly infrastructures and energy supply, which are vastly under-invested. In this sense, they outline the specific politically necessary measures that must be taken for a sustainable, just, and crisis-resistant financial sector.
