Die weisse Filzkappe
German, Isuf Sherifi, 2017Product details
These are not soothing, beauty-drunk verses that come under the white felt cap. The author was born in Macedonia, learned the Albanian language and way of life in Kosovo – and also how to advocate for the rights of Albanians. For the latter, he paid with imprisonment, later emigrated to Switzerland, and learned German here. In this German and from his experiences, he writes his poems about people and animals, about inner catastrophes and outer joys, about a difficult homeland and lived foreignness. The vivid language resembles robust woodcuts, which can also create delicate, even tender images. Isuf Sherifi's poems continuously engage with life; as a result, we gain unusual, critical, invigorating insights into the things and ideas we live with.
