A dark, gripping, and witty thriller in which the only thing humanity can control is death. In a world where disease, war, and crime have been eliminated, the only way to die is to be "harvested" at random by professional Grim Reapers. Citra and Rowan are teenagers chosen to become the apprentices of the Grim Reapers, and although they want nothing to do with this profession, they must learn the art of killing and understand the necessity of what they do. Only one of them will be selected as a Grim Reaper's apprentice, and as Citra and Rowan face off against a disturbingly corrupt Reaper, it becomes clear that the first task of the victorious apprentice will be to harvest the loser.
