Wallpaper from the French manufacturer Dufour were considered a coveted decorative item throughout Europe from the Napoleonic era until the 1830s, especially in bourgeois households. Katharina Eck focuses on three of these large-format wallpapers in her work. In a transdisciplinary study (literature and art studies), she examines the gender and couple formation didactics in the wallpaper scenes, as well as the "properly functioning" sexuality dispositif, alongside the practices of living and sociability around 1800. She develops analytical axes that explore the "relational positioning" with the wallpapered spaces and their performative potential for the first time in this illustrative form.
