The Berlin Speech on Poetry will be delivered on June 11, 2023, by the South Korean poet Kim Hyesoon.

The 2023 Berlin Speech on Poetry will be given by Kim Hyesoon, who was born in 1955 in Uljin (North Gyeongsang Province). She studied Korean literature and gained significant recognition in the late 1990s. Her literary debut, "Poet Smoking a Cigarette," was published in 1979. Kim's virtuosity as a poet lies in her ability to create unique poetic images with experimental language while maintaining a deep interest in what is known as women's writing, rooted in female experiences and ways of being. The central themes she explores in her unconventional works include both emancipation and the pursuit of freedom within Korean society. She is one of the most renowned modern female poets in Korea. Currently, she teaches creative writing at the Seoul Institute of the Arts.
