"What a world theater," says Carola von Lübken, "when you stand before the paintings of Natascha Ungeheuer. This diversity, this vibrancy, this joy, these fears, this romance, this playfulness, these daydreams, this sadness, this imagination, this eroticism, these many, many people. You can never get enough of these images." For fifty years, Natascha Ungeheuer has been painting oil paintings and working in other artistic techniques. Despite numerous exhibitions at home and abroad, she has largely refused to engage with the art market. Perhaps that is why she has remained a hidden gem, even though Hans Werner Henze admired her works as "monstrosities" for their imagination and liveliness. Now, for the first time in a long while, a large exhibition of her oil paintings will be on display: starting in September at the Willy-Brandt-Haus in Berlin.
