The most impactful work of Hugo Ball based on the text of the first edition. The last and most successful of the books published by Hugo Ball himself was the monograph Hermann Hesse. His Life and His Work, which was released in June 1927, four months before his death, by S. Fischer Verlag. Samuel Fischer praised the book as the best biographical work in my publishing house, and contemporary literary criticism almost unanimously shared the publisher's opinion. Ball succeeded in creating a foundational basis for the numerous future biographies of the poet with his portrayal of Hesse's life. His depiction is also striking for its intuitiveness, his sensitivity to aspects that were still unknown to him, which only became apparent in their full complexity decades later.
