Product details

A long-term study on the aftermath of National Socialism in the Federal Republic of Germany. The way Germans deal with their Nazi past is often seen as exemplary today. However, the willingness to engage with the Third Reich was not always a given. Philipp Kratz examines how difficult this path could be, using the example of the Hessian state capital Wiesbaden. He brings together the key areas of coming to terms with the past: How did former perpetrators and victims interact when they encountered each other again in the urban vicinity after the war? How did contemporaries argue over questions of individual and collective guilt and the consequences that followed? What forms of punishment, restitution, and commemoration existed, as well as renewed humiliation, instrumentalization, and silence?.
