Product details

Fast 500 mostly unknown poems by Christine Lavant. An incomparable discovery. "Those who hold back what they must write are perhaps like a woman who buries her children out of fear that they might not please the dear neighbor," noted Christine Lavant. The Carinthian poet wrote around 1,800 poems throughout her life. Only about a third of these were published by Lavant. Initially, she withheld bolder content and more formally risky poems, and after the publication of her third major poetry collection "Der Pfauenschrei" (1962), when her poetic voice had nearly fallen silent, she wanted nothing more to do with publishing. Many poems from her estate reveal, unprotected and accessible, where Lavant's powerful imagery in poetry originates. It is a lyric that Monika Rinck describes as "the immense transformation of pain.".
