Product details
Joseph Roth wrote for no other newspaper as long as he did for the "Prager Tagblatt," which was widely read beyond the borders of Czechoslovakia at the time. The first contribution from the then-unknown German studies student, a poem, was published in 1917, and the last in 1937, when the now-famous journalist and novelist had already been living in exile for years. The "Prager Tagblatt" was known for its liberal and democratic stance as well as its excellent feuilleton; in the 1920s, it featured writings from prominent figures in German literature. The unique style of this newspaper did not allow for false pathos, as Max Brod and Friedrich Torberg described its distinctive bohemian element. Roth appreciated this, but even more important to him was its responsible political position: he never had to break with the "Prager Tagblatt.".
