The third volume of the series "C. F. Meyers Briefwechsel" presents the correspondence with the Zurich scholars Friedrich and Georg von Wyss from the period of 1855 to 1897. Meyer was friends with both correspondents, and he was also related to Friedrich von Wyss. Both Friedrich von Wyss, a jurist and legal historian, and his half-brother Georg von Wyss, a historian, followed Meyer's artistic development with keen interest and supported his efforts for social recognition in the patrician circles of his hometown. Meyer repeatedly sought advice from his friends and exchanged thoughts with them on the latest historical, philosophical, and theological literature. At times, the critical reception of the novellas by the pietistically inclined Friedrich von Wyss tested the relationship with Meyer, who was struggling for intellectual independence.
