Product details
After World War II, South America became a refuge for numerous Nazi criminals and collaborators. However, there were soon diverse efforts to track down these fugitives from justice and bring them to trial. Daniel Stahl focuses on the actors of this "Nazi hunt" – private individuals, non-state and state institutions. He demonstrates that the Nazi hunt cannot be understood solely as a post-history of National Socialism, reflecting and simultaneously driving the change in the handling of Nazi crimes. It also became part of the confrontation with repression by authoritarian regimes in South America: dissidents and human rights activists believed that the fugitive Nazi perpetrators and collaborators were also involved in state violence crimes on behalf of South American dictators after 1945, and they supported efforts to prosecute them.
