Product details
This volume, one of Stefan Andres's most successful works, established his fame as a poet of his Moselle homeland. It contains the five stories "The Incredible Journey of the Boy Titus," "The Masked Ones," "The Man Thief," "Guests in Paradise," and "The Break into Darkness." Additionally, this new edition includes three other long-out-of-print novellas: "Utz the Descendant" (1936), "Inn to the Wide World" (1943), and "The Murdering Buck" (1962). The novellas written in the 1930s were first published in 1937 under the title "Moselle Novellas" and again in 1949 under the title "Guests in Paradise. Moselle Novellas." Andres portrays the land and its people with critical sympathy, humor, and irony; they reveal the Trier area as a European region. They always deal with themes of guilt, atonement, and self-reflection.
