Models are generally understood as filtered interpretations of our environment, free from all the distractions of daily life. In architecture, they tend toward the utopian and demonstrate how much better things could be: neither decay nor other minor details can tarnish the brilliance of the future building. In my own engagement with models, I have often taken advantage of the purity and timelessness they can exhibit. During this exploration of images and spaces, the nature and ephemeral potential of paper and cardboard—materials with which we are all quite familiar, especially in terms of transitional solutions and provisional usability—have shifted from the corners of my studio to the center of my attention. However, in my view, they also required a different approach, perhaps a detour.
