Product details
The Mark Brandenburg was a margraviate of the Holy Roman Empire, existing from around 1157 until its transformation into the Province of Brandenburg in 1815. The Mark Brandenburg included the Altmark located west of the Elbe (now part of the state of Saxony-Anhalt) and the Mittelmark (in the present-day states of Brandenburg and Berlin), which together were also referred to as Kurmark. East of the Oder lay the Neumark with the Land Sternberg (Oststernberg and Weststernberg districts), which today mostly belongs to the Polish Voivodeship of Lubusz - a small part also belongs to the Voivodeship of West Pomerania. Colloquially, the term Mark Brandenburg or simply Mark is used synonymously for the present-day state of Brandenburg. This volume provides a historical overview, describes the architectural history of the region, presents migrations from Berlin to Jüterbog, Wiesenburg, Havelberg, and other towns, and describes the Mecklenburg Switzerland, Rheinsberg, Lehnin, and other places. Illustrated with 18 black-and-white maps. Reprint of the original edition from 1910.
