Hamburg - the gateway to the world - became a home in the 60s and 70s for many people from all over the globe. And we kids were right in the middle of it. We loved trips to Hagenbeck or to Planten un Blomen. Second-hand shops in Eppendorf, tea shops, and flea markets, like the one at the fish market, accompanied our youth. The variety of music clubs, pubs, concert halls, and discos was immense. We went to places like Third World, Marktstuben, Madhouse, KNUST, and whatever else they were called. As city kids, we were always in tune with the times, and with our 18th birthday, the whole world was open to us.
