Remember your childhood and youth with us! It was a difficult time into which we were born. The worst of the approximately 20 bomb attacks on Magdeburg reduced the old town to rubble and ashes on January 16, 1945. The children turned necessity into a dangerous virtue, and the rubble-strewn lots became adventure playgrounds. Gradually, the debris disappeared. In 1951, the first new house was built on Breiten Weg, once the longest Baroque street in Germany. In the summer, the children went to the Elbe, the Ehle, Prester Lake, or the municipal swimming pool. Those who loved sports had plenty of options: playing handball with Lok Südost, water polo with Dynamo, soccer with Motor Mitte, or swimming with SC Aufbau. Anyone who was bored as a child or teenager in Magdeburg had only themselves to blame!.
