Excited and expectant, we looked into the future back then. Join us in remembering the first 18 years of life - your childhood and youth! Born in 1927, we entered the turmoil of the Weimar Republic, started school in the year Hitler came to power, and were drafted for military service in the last year of the war. We became witnesses to a terrible and dramatic period: twelve years of "brown" dictatorship, Hitler Youth and BDM, relocation to the countryside and bomb warfare, captivity and years of hunger gave us a harsh childhood and youth. Yet, we also experienced beautiful moments in the embrace of our families, playing with neighborhood children on the street, and with first love at dance evenings or in the cinema.
