In Hamburg, there are more animal species to be found than in any other major German city. The local wildlife offers much more than just proud Alster swans and mighty red deer in Duvenstedter Brook. Whether in the city center, residential areas, or the numerous parks and gardens of the Elbe metropolis: interesting observations of animals of all kinds and sizes can be made throughout the urban area. It is not uncommon for the city's animal inhabitants to seek out unusual niches and create somewhat quirky substitute habitats as cultural followers. This zoological guide aims to help better understand the part of the urban wildlife that literally falls through the cracks of urban nature guides.
