Inclusion requires educational institutions to consider the diverse life worlds of children and to ensure that no child is excluded. Disadvantages based on origin, gender, skin color, age, family structure, disability, residency status, refugee history, language, religion, and others violate fundamental rights of children, such as the right to education and the right to protection from discrimination. They damage children's self-esteem and often diminish their motivation to learn. This affects even young children, including those in daycare centers. However, when children experience daycare as a learning environment that respects their uniqueness as well as that of other children and families, they develop a positive self-image, respect for others, and a competent approach to diversity.
