Product details
In the early 19th century, as power shifted to city residents and the beginnings of municipal self-governance emerged, a new discipline came into focus in the last quarter of the century that continues to be significant today: the study of urban planning or city development as a distinct field of architecture at universities. Since then, various types of specialized books and numerous articles and statements have addressed this topic: the nature and tasks of urban planning and city development. This book presents about 60 of them. With a few exceptions, those selected are works that have appeared solely – or in timely translation – in the German-speaking cultural area and that not only address individual aspects but also consider the overall theme, thereby developing guiding concepts.
