Language education, language support, and German as a second language are integral components of teacher training in many federal states. In some states, such as Berlin and North Rhine-Westphalia, German as a second language has even become a mandatory module. Other states are following suit or are currently discussing the incorporation of language education into their curricula. The volume "German as a Second Language in Teacher Education" provides an overview of existing models and presents initial findings. Additionally, it addresses the following questions: What content should be taught in the area of language support and German as a second language, and what competencies should prospective teachers acquire? How can linguistic aspects of subject teaching be conveyed during the course of study? Are these competencies sufficient to prepare for the challenges ahead?.
