Development cooperation (DC) is characterized by intercultural encounters. Particularly within development organizations, the collaboration between local and expatriate staff can lead to experienced cultural differences that may cause uncertainty, anger, and frustration among employees on both sides. In this book, the author examines the diverse interactions and tensions in intra-organizational collaboration in the context of DC, using German development organizations in Peru and Bolivia as examples. The ethnographic approach allows for a well-founded critical inquiry and clearly demonstrates that not only cultural differences but also power inequalities shape collaboration, emphasizing the need for intercultural issues to be conceptually anchored at the organizational level.
