School has the task of preparing learners for life in a multilingual world. The Multilingualism Curriculum is understood as a concrete step towards achieving this objective. The focus is on the language skills and language experiences of the students. The curriculum provides guidance for lesson organization and offers goals, methods, and content for orientation and implementation of multilingualism in teaching. It structures the approach to languages in four areas: perceiving multilingual situations, comparing languages, developing social and cultural connections of languages, and acquiring language learning strategies. Initially developed for the Austrian education system, this curriculum is placed in the context of the subject discussion on multilingualism and multilingualism didactics; implications for teacher education are also considered.
