Product details

What are seniors looking for in a museum? Is it, as previously assumed, knowledge and entertainment? Or do the monthly educational programs for people over 65, which form the basis of this argument, offer much more and something entirely different? This paper adopts an ethnographic approach: participant observation and biographical interviews with fifty visitors provide a nuanced perspective on the experiences of individuals over 65 in the "Temple of Knowledge." The empirical visitor research shows that while the programs convey information about exhibits and topics, they also offer opportunities for structuring daily life. At the same time, they serve to distinguish oneself from peers, present challenges, create an alternative world to everyday life, and prove to be stimulating places for self-reflection.
