The success of medical treatment depends on many factors. The first step towards a happy recovery is often the conversation between doctor and patient. However, economic conditions impose limits that often make it difficult for doctors to work effectively. Therefore, it is even more important to closely examine the patient conversation as an instrument of "medical art" and to represent the requirements and expectations of both doctor and patient. Through a small exploratory survey among doctors and patients, as well as personal experiences, Lothar Schäffner highlights the doctor-patient relationship as he perceives it today. The central demands of the patient on the doctor, which arise not only from professional competence but also from the relational level, as well as the importance of the patient's shared responsibility, become clear. This is valuable for both experienced and aspiring doctors.
