"And, what do you do for a living?" With the answer to this question, we often categorize the person we are talking to within our everyday framework in just seconds. Work - primarily paid work - determines patterns of social positioning. In an immigration society, it is particularly a matter of social participation for migrants. Turkish immigrants, even in the second generation, experience culturally specific attributions related to work in their daily lives along the categories of gender and ethnicity. This volume focuses on the perspective of migrants who are no longer migrants: What significance does work have for them and their self-perception, for their identity? What form of work do they consider as the foundation of a successful identity, and what role do cultural values and social recognition play in this?.
