Enabling educational participation and ensuring educational equity is considered one of the most important societal tasks today. In this context, educational institutions in Germany, both schools and universities, play a special role: by implementing professionalization measures, they can sharpen their awareness of the reproduction of social inequalities while simultaneously opening up and strengthening educational opportunities for less privileged children, adolescents, and adults. This anthology, resulting from the conference 'Future Educational Opportunities' held in September 2021 by the Center for Teacher Education (ZfL) at the University of Cologne, addresses both the genesis of educational inequalities and the solutions and concepts for schools and universities that can enable educational opportunities in the present and future.
