In the Heroides, Ovid presents the reader with fictional love letters from famous women of Greek mythology to their lovers or husbands. These letters often lament the infidelity of men or express the women's hope for their swift return. For example, Medea writes to Jason, Ariadne to Theseus, Dido to Aeneas, and Penelope to Odysseus.
