European history from the Middle Ages to the present can also be described as a development from scarcity societies to abundance societies. The agricultural revolution, manufacturing, and industrialization, along with the expansion of transportation networks (sea routes, railways, bridges, etc.) and the economic revolution, especially of the last centuries, impact every area of human life and fundamentally transform it. The search for a European identity cannot be conceived without the economic-historical aspect, as Europe has developed institutions, mentalities, and structures that have become crucial for the spread of the capitalist economic system and thus for our current way of life. This process did not begin only with the Industrial Revolution but can be traced back to the High Middle Ages.
