The moral dilemma in ethics education
German, 2011Product details
The dilemma method by Lawrence Kohlberg is a favored approach to ethics education in our time. In fact, it addresses precisely where ethics education should begin: with concrete real-world problems. However, from the standpoint of moral philosophy, the method has the issue of creating the false impression that every moral problem can be solved without exception at the highest 6th stage of moral development through the application of universal moral principles. Therefore, the book advocates, after a first part discussing didactic and methodological standards, for a second and third part that aims for a 7th stage of moral development in ethics education, which should enable both a situationally justified breach of principles and the handling of unsolvable moral dilemmas.
