Product details

The preliminary course introduced by the Swiss artist Johannes Itten in 1919 at the newly founded Bauhaus in Weimar revolutionized design education worldwide. This foundational teaching was adopted not only in Japan but also forms the basis of many design schools today. In addition to the charismatic educator, the biography also honors the expressive painter Itten, who experimented with form and color in his works. The book sheds light on Itten's multifaceted personality, his foundational research, and his personal circumstances. From 1919 to 1923, Itten served as a master at the State Bauhaus in Weimar, shaping the early phase of the now world-renowned school with his work and personality. Alongside his teaching and work with students at the Bauhaus, he conducted his own design investigations into the effects of colors.
