Welt-Zeit
German, Martin Wallraff, 2005Product details
The "Christian World Chronicle" represents the fundamental form of Christian historical thought for almost one and a half millennia. This volume presents, analyzes, and illustrates the most important works of this genre, from Iulius Africanus to Hieronymus and Paulus Orosius, as well as the Schedel World Chronicle and Luther's "Supputatio annorum mundi," with numerous paradigmatic illustrations. Three in-depth analyses examine important aspects of the genesis and development of the genre: Martin Wallraff addresses the emergence of Christian universal historiography, Thomas Krönung discusses the chronography of Iulius Africanus, and Franz Nagel explores the Jena illustration cycle related to the world chronicle of Otto of Freising. From May 19 to the end of July 2005, an exhibition featuring numerous exhibits on Christian world chronicle was held at the Thuringian University and State Library in Jena.
