In the past, designers created objects. Today, practically everything is designed: the climate, processes, refugee camps. However, when everything is designed, it is high time to evaluate design not solely based on aesthetic criteria. According to Friedrich von Borries, we need a political design theory. Humans are compelled to shape the conditions under which they live. If this is done in a way that reduces options for action, we are dealing with subjugation. In his manifesto, von Borries advocates for a designing approach (of survival, society, self) that escapes the totalitarian logic of securitization and imagines new forms of coexistence against the ideology of inevitability.
