Élin only learns later that a volcanic eruption in Iceland is paralyzing air traffic across large parts of Europe. The volcano threatens the lives of her family and forces her and many people in Iceland to flee to safe emergency shelters. Before that, they had tried to protect their farms and animals. But everything fails, and there is no room for Élin's favorite horse, Afdrif. To save him, Élin is determined to do anything; she sets off with a herd of young horses: a journey of 300 kilometers, including through the dangerous highlands. Her brother and her best friend think she’s crazy, but they ultimately join her on this insane adventure.
