Less is more. This is one of the hottest tips I can give to any young actor. Doing absolutely nothing can be very useful in a situation where the reaction is particularly important. If something terrible happens to you according to the script – for example, your wife is murdered – and your face is shown in close-up, often it is enough to look completely blank. The essence of acting is to build up to that moment, not the moment itself.
