Why shouldn't a daughter be happier than her mother? Regina is a typical representative of the post-war generation. She had many opportunities, was able to study psychology, and dreamed of an academic career, only to make sacrifices for the sake of her family. Now, she places all her hopes in her daughters, Antonia and Wanda. Antonia consistently undermines these hopes, dropping out of her studies and becoming a single mother. Wanda fulfills all the expectations placed upon her and finds herself in an eating disorder that everyone ignores. Throughout their lives, the sisters oscillate between mutual competition, autonomy, and the desire to be recognized by their mother even beyond her death.
