After the first five volumes featuring early novels, partly unknown stories, and plays, we now have, for the first time collected in one volume, Bernhard's autobiographical writings and his third novel, The Lime Works. This volume brings together the five autobiographical books: The Cause, The Cellar, The Breath, The Cold, and A Child, which were published between 1975 and 1982, for the first time in a single collection. As a reminder: readers expect these texts to provide insight into the "true" Thomas Bernhard. However, the autobiographical books are less documents of his life and more completed literature.
