Roland Strietzel has created a new standard work for dental technology. The materials science section provides guidelines for manufacturing processes. The author conveys background knowledge on why certain processes should be carried out in specific ways. In addition to a brief history, the respective material groups are defined and categorized, along with an explanation of their properties. The order of the material groups discussed essentially follows the workflow of the dental technician. The significance of each step and material is outlined. Alongside the traditional (analog) process, the (digital) CAD/CAM technology is also presented. Volume 1 deals with physical, chemical, and biological properties as well as manufacturing methods. Volume 2 addresses the material groups (impression materials, model materials, ceramic materials, implants).
