The term "tool holder" is still less commonly used today than "tool clamp." In the vast majority of cases, however, the tool is connected to the machine tool in a force-locking manner, meaning it is clamped, for example, turning tools, drills, countersinks, milling cutters, planing chisels, impact chisels, and grinding wheels. Furthermore, the term tool clamp logically and meaningfully denotes the belonging of these manufacturing tools to the group of clamping devices. The same design guidelines generally apply to tool clamps as to workpiece clamps, as both types of clamping devices essentially serve the same functions. However, determining the position and clamping of tools is usually simpler than that of workpieces, as tools have simpler and more uniform connection forms.
