Product details

The tragedy "Werner or the Inheritance," set in Silesia and Prague during the Thirty Years' War, was created in 1822 but traces back to the poet's very first dramatic attempt. Byron (1788-1824) completely revised the first two acts, which were originally written in 1815, and added a third act. As is often the case with the poet's works, the drama revolves around a destructive family feud; however, it is more of a narrative in verse than a play intended for performance, as Byron noted in the preface, "the whole is certainly not meant for the stage, nor is it suitable for it.".
