Product details

The euro has been in a deep crisis since 2008, a crisis that seems never-ending and threatens the survival of the currency union. However, Germany refuses to acknowledge that it bears a significant responsibility for this predicament. Instead, crisis-stricken countries like Greece, Portugal, and Spain are put on trial as the culprits. In their book, Jörg Bibow and Heiner Flassbeck demonstrate that the Eurogroup, under Germany's leadership, is responsible for the unnecessary prolongation of the crisis. The imposed austerity policies and the so-called labor market flexibility have deepened and extended the crisis. To this day, it is not understood that wage cuts directly increase unemployment, as they destroy domestic demand. And France is currently showing that it has not learned this lesson.
