At their own individual learning pace, children gain spelling confidence, practice writing and checking words and texts, and build a solid basic vocabulary through the use of the independent Igel workbook. Recurring exercise formats within the eight units, all structured similarly, allow for independent work on the workbook. Each exercise unit begins with an engaging text. The difficult words contained within are practiced through various tasks. The text as a whole is then practiced in different ways. Additionally, each exercise unit offers exercises on various spelling topics over three pages to reinforce spelling confidence. The last page of a unit is dedicated to differentiation and deepens engagement with the material.
