Product details

The state and societal upheaval of 1989/90 was a milestone for today's Antifa movement. However, in previous retrospectives, little attention has been paid to the fact that an independent movement emerged in East Germany, which began in the late GDR and developed its own profile. Thirty years after the founding of the first independent Antifa groups in the GDR, this volume now brings together social, cultural, and historical analyses for the first time. Researchers and activists provide insights into personal motivations for action, socio-political contexts, and internal debates within the movement. The authors address the confrontations with the FDJ and the GDR's state security, the appropriation of space through squatting, and the ambivalent relationship between Antifa groups in East and West Germany.
