Geomancy is increasingly recognized in the public sphere, although it is still only rudimentarily understood. In recent years, there has been a remarkably self-critical discussion within the field regarding the current definition of the term. Geomancy - poetically described as "the art of reading the hand lines of the Earth" - today encompasses the perception of natural qualities, expands ecological perspectives into the spiritual realm, and shapes the interaction between humans and nature with a view to sustainably maintaining entire biosystems. Its fields of application include architecture and residential health, garden and urban planning, landscape design, medicine and psychology, cultural history, philosophy and religion, art and new science, as well as a responsible lifestyle informed by transpersonal and transmaterial domains. Meaningful elements of scientific rigor, such as critical discourse or a consistent pluralism of methods, along with efforts to distinguish between empirical knowledge, hypotheses, and currently unexplained methods (which work in practice without a known physical mechanism) make geomancy a landmark for societal dialogue about the future of life on Earth.
