Product details

Roland Barthes (1915-80), one of the most significant critics of the second half of the 20th century, is known as one of the initiators and advocates of the semiological revolution and for a body of work that intertwines biographical material with a scientific approach. A relatively unknown part of his work was written in the 1950s. During this time, Roland Barthes was actively involved in the founding and publication of the journal 'Teatre populaire', which was both an aesthetic and political phenomenon. In the early 1960s, Barthes abandoned theater; he no longer attended performances and wrote very few articles about them. However, he was long-term influenced by his experiences: 'At the heart of my work, theater.' He died on March 26, 1980, as a result of a traffic accident. At the time of his death, he held a chair in Semiotics at the Collège de France.
