It would be hopeless to try to create the impression of randomness that the artifacts in the Zen garden convey using a random generator. Here too, perception grasps more than the mind comprehends. In conjunction with the current lecture series of the Department of Architecture at ETH, international figures from the fields of architecture, architectural theory, visual arts, politics, and economics engage with the question: "What moves architecture (in the next five years)?" Volume 1 of the new series "Architecture Lectures at ETH Zurich" presents three different positions side by side: those of architect Jacques Herzog, architectural theorist Georg Franck, and artist Joep van Lieshout.
