Memories are the fabric from which we are made. Most of them are pleasant, but some cause great suffering: bothersome behaviors, constant pain, irritating somatic sensations, or irrational fears remain with us as consequences of the traumas we have endured. While there are few answers regarding the causes, two facts are certain: trauma changes a person, and the place where this happens is the brain. That is why Ronald Ruden explored how advances in neuroscience can be useful for psychotherapy.
