Wolfgang Bukowski has refreshed and expanded his memories of Gleiwitz through several trips to Gliwice and extensive research. Diverse contacts with fellow Gleiwitz residents have contributed to this. There are many reasons why this has resulted in a book: the author wants to create a small monument to the city of his childhood and youth and to its residents, who have shaped his life in various ways. He also aims to provide a counter-image to what he believes are distorted representations of the city of Gleiwitz and the lifestyle of its citizens.
